Check out this post by [personal profile] bedlamsbard. I'd never realized until I read this post just how much chasing down archaeology and ancient mysteries was a genre that fascinated me. I always assumed it was just one of many different types of action/scifi/fantasy genres that I enjoyed and never realized that the archaeology/history was a big part of the interest. [personal profile] bedlamsbard talks about the different kinds of ACT as 1) reality-based, i.e., historically documented and actual archaeological sites, like non-fiction books about Atlantis and the Holy Grail, 2) fiction-based like Indiana Jones and Amelia Peabody, and 2) alien-based like Stargate and X-Files.

Wouldn't it be neat to have a comm where we could talk about archaeology and aliens and the stories that play with the ideas?
